Obituary for Belva (Lu) Anderson

Belva (Lu) Anderson, 88, a resident of Panama City, Florida passed away Monday, October 29, 2018. She was born August 30, 1930 in Henryetta, Oklahoma.

Belva began life in a small town in Oklahoma. Wanting to see the world she joined the Army, after graduation from Henryetta High School. While in school she was a budding Thespian and played the drums in the band.

Her journey took her to a duty assignment in San Antonio, Texas, where she met the love of her life, the city slicker from New York, Walter (Andy) Anderson. Together they traveled to many duty assignments all over the country and as far away as the Philippines. Upon returning to the states in 1965, they made their home in Panama City. Here Walter retired from the Air Force and established a business Callaway Craft Center.

Belva was career Civil Service, and spent many of those years at Tyndall. Working in housing and at her retirement was Assistant Manager of billeting.

In January 2019, Belva and Andy would have celebrated 69 years of marriage. They were blessed to have five children: Walter O. Anderson, Jr. (Dee), Debra L. Anderson, Robin J. Edwards, Edna M. Shaw, and Rebecca J. Patten (Russ). Belva loved her children but the true loves of her life were her 18 grandchildren: Cecilia Rasmussen (Matt), Jennifer Edwards, Emily Edwards (Andrew), Amy Hicks (J.D.), Heather Kester (James), Richard Bowen (Ashley), Shaun Edwards (Kim), Diantha Walling (Dave), Katrina Catteruccia, Jeremiah Edwards (Davilyn), Walter Anderson III, James Alan Shaw (Katherine), Christopher Shaw, Quincy Anderson, Robbin Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Jamie Sainz (Billy) and Vanessa Anderson. Belva and Andy were further blessed to have had 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Richeson and Johanna L. Richeson; brothers, Charles Richeson, William Richeson, Jr.; sister, Valentine Goodman; sons-in-law, Jeffrey Edwards and Ralph Shaw.

She never met a stranger and was loved by many for her love and compassion. It is difficult to sum up a life so well spent in a few words. For those of us left behind we take comfort in knowing we will be together again.

Services as per her wishes, will be a private family gathering and memorial.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which had a special place in her heart.
