Obituary for Jack L. Mathews

Retired Captain, Jack L. Mathews, 90, of Panama City, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home. Jack and his late wife of 66 years, Betty Mathews moved to the area in 1964. Jack served his country proudly for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. Jack and Betty traveled all over the United States and Spain during his time in the service. After retiring, the couple continued their travels and enjoyed sailing together. Jack, a devoted family man, cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Cheryl Beote (John) of Lakeland, Judy Mitchell (Mike), Laura Emanuel (Charles), and Maggie Cope (David), all of Panama City; brother, Michael Mathews; brother-in-law, Ben Padgett (Terri); eight grandchildren, Cathy (David), Tommy (Casey), Kristi (Ed), Kerri (Paul), Missy (John), Jenny (Aaron), Matt (Emily), and Josh; twelve great-grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, Makenzie, Madison, Makayla, Michael, Katie, Will, James, Acey, Arlo and Everly; nephew, Jay Padgett and niece, Natalie Weeks (Shane); great-nephew, Luke and great-niece, Emma Jacqueline.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Bruce Josten, Dr. William Dent, their staff, as well as the staff of Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home.
